Name: Christian Haustead
Role: Managing Director - Asia Pacific
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Q: How long have you been with Wild Well Control?
A: I joined in 2014 when we established our regional Asia Pacific office, although we had been supporting operators in the region for many years beforehand.
My day-to-day role varies greatly. It includes working closely with our clients on work scopes, providing local first response support, establishing new contracts, supporting our agents, developing relationships with different stakeholders, managing budgets, mentoring, and working with our team to strategize. Every day is different, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Q: Can you describe your industry experience?
A: I graduated from Victoria University, Australia, with a BSc and began working with BHP Petroleum in my hometown of Perth, Australia. Within a year I was relocated to Houston. During those initial years, I received broad exposure to the industry, and I completed a Master of HSE through Curtin University, Australia.
In 2007 I moved to Singapore to work with a well control company and I have been based in Southeast Asia working in the industry ever since.
I have had incredible mentors over the years and have worked on operations around the globe. From meeting with clients and understanding different cultures, supporting our response to well control events, and evacuations from Libya during the 2011 uprising, to managing operations during a global pandemic, there have been many experiences.
Q: What trends are you seeing in the industry?
A: It’s constantly evolving and that’s why Wild Well continues to prioritize investing in our personnel, equipment, and technology. We continue to see an increased focus on QHSE management, non-response well control engineering services, and the need for the strategic positioning of resources to support global operations.
Q: What differentiates Wild Well Control?
A: It’s been said many times, but it’s the Wild Well team. We have the largest well control equipment inventory in the industry and the latest technology but it’s our dedicated and professional team that makes us the industry leader. I’m still amazed at the level of experience and talent that we have in the company and the passion and pride of every team member.
Q: What excites you about working for Wild Well Control?
A: Every day is different. The opportunities to learn from my colleagues and our clients and understanding the various cultures that we operate in continues to excite me.
