Name: Barry Moir
Role: Managing Director Middle East & North Africa
Location: Dubai, UAE
Q: How long have you worked at Wild Well Control?
A: I joined Wild Well Control in 2011, starting in its North Sea business unit in the Aberdeen office and rising to Managing Director in 2014. In 2020, I joined the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) business unit (BU) office in Dubai.
Currently, I’m responsible for the performance of the MENA BU, ensuring it’s ready to respond 24/7/365 with the appropriate range and quality of services. Maintaining effective links with customers and other stakeholders while being aware of developments in the industry and the region is important. I’m also involved with our unconventional intervention services operations, run by our experienced management team and staff in MENA. Other responsibilities include interfacing daily with our Houston headquarters.
Q: Can you describe your industry experience?
A: I’ve worked in the oil and gas industry for near 35 years. Having qualified as a CPA I started my career in corporate finance and commercial roles for an IOC in Aberdeen and Paris. I then moved to senior management positions in London and Aberdeen for operators including BP and Talisman Energy. From there, I joined Ramco Energy, a UK AIM listed independent operator, in an executive role I then joined ConocoPhillips and subsequently moved to Premier Oilfield Rentals in a senior management role. Through all the various positions held I have accumulated significant international experience across technical, commercial and management aspects of the industry and this has allowed me to continuously develop my understanding and apply that experience in my day-to-day role at Wild Well. I can’t think of any other industry that would offer the same experience and opportunities that I have been fortunate enough to have gained.
Q: What trends are you seeing in the industry?
A: The reliance on hydrocarbons will be significant for decades to come but sustainable development will be key to the future. This will include a focus on lower carbon emissions and natural gas. For the MENA region, the outlook is very bright and Wild Well is ideally placed to support the industry in meeting its sustainable development challenges.
Q: What differentiates Wild Well?
A: Our core strengths are our outstanding reputation for quality, service, and reliability in providing well control services to the industry. Continuous improvement maintains our position as the market leader in our field. We have some magnificent talent coming through and the experience of our personnel is second to none.
With the price of hydrocarbons pivotal to activity levels in our industry, there have been several recessions in Wild Well Control’s 45-year history. The fact we have beaten them all is a testament to the high regard and respect Wild Well commands.
Q. What excites you about working for Wild Well Control?
A: What I like most about my role is the variety it offers and linking up with our teams across the globe. The seamless interface between our Houston HQ and our MENA team is very pleasing while the challenge of working in a new region excites me as we continue to grow.
