Shriners Hospitals Donation Kicks Off Preparations for 21st Golf Blowout
On Saturday, March 4, 2017, Wild Well presented a check for $82,000 to Shriners Hospitals for Children during the College Classic held at Minute Maid Park. The donation was the result of last year's fundraising efforts, which culminated in the 20th Annual Wild Well Golf Blowout. This brings the grand total to more than $1.7 million raised.
The Golf Blowout began as the brainchild of Wild Well founder Joe Bowden, Sr, who sustained burn injuries during a job in 1985. His time at the Shriners Hospital in Galveston gave him firsthand experience with children who were dealing with physical struggles of their own.
What began as a donation of teddy bears dressed in the iconic yellow Wild Well overalls developed into a small golf tournament in 1997. In the early years, customers were invited to pay only a fee and, once expenses were covered, a modest sum was donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Now, the Wild Well Golf Blowout attracts major sponsors from the Houston area. In addition to the golf tournament held at the award-winning Kingwood Golf Course, a silent auction and live auction round out the day, making it the biggest golf charity event for Shriners.
Besides the golf tournament, Wild Well makes year-round donations to Shriners through sales from the company store as well as internal company events from generous donations made by employees. Join us September 18 for the 21st Annual Wild Well Golf Blowout and add your name to the list of smiles for Shriners Hospitals for Children. The event is the success it is today because of our amazing volunteers, customers, and sponsors. Visit www.wildwellgolfblowout.com and learn more today!
